No healthy oral hygiene? Tips & tricks for fresh breath

Wearing masks is frustrating for many peoples. They’re too tight, they’re not tight enough, they tickle or they cause your glasses to fog up. Now that we are massively wearing a mask, many of us find that we suffer from foul breath. We give tips and tricks for better oral hygiene.

CAUSES OF POOR ORAL HYGIENE

A good or bad taste in the mouth actually says little or nothing about possible bad breath. Most people therefore often do not realize that their breath is foul. Wearing a mask has changed this situation. What are the real causes of this bad breath? Bad breath can be caused by a condition, but often you can also control what happens to you. Tobacco and alcohol are the main culprits. Poor oral hygiene is second on the list of predisposing factors. If your mouth isn’t clean, bacteria, food scraps, dead cells, and drool turn into sulfur dioxide, which causes an unpleasant odor. We share tips and tricks for better oral hygiene.

TIP 1: THE RIGHT TOOTHBRUSH

Do you absolutely want to get the best result? Electric brushing is then a must. With an electric toothbrush , you can easily achieve 4000 extra brushing strokes per minute. Over a few minutes, that obviously makes a world of difference. Also replace your conventional toothbrush regularly. In reality, it is better to replace it every three months.

TIP 2: BRUSH ENOUGH (LONG)

This is relatively common sense, but it remains the basis of healthy oral hygiene.  Then it is better to also brush your tongue. We know it may sound weird, but bacteria often get stuck on the back of the tongue. You can brush your tongue with your toothbrush or use a suitable scraper.

TIP 3: CHEW GUM

Chewing gum and breath mints mask bad mouth odor, but that’s not why chewing gum makes it to this list. The chewing gum will stimulate the production of saliva, so that your mouth does not dry out and does not give any chance to the bacteria naturally present in the oral cavity. Chew, but chew sugar-free gum, because sugar can cause bad breath and cavities.

TIP 4: LONG LIVE THE TEETH CLEANING

An electric toothbrush will remove significantly more bacteria than a manual variant, but no toothbrush is able to clean the interdental spaces. Reason why picking your teeth daily is necessary for good dental hygiene. Are your gums starting to bleed? This is a sign that bacteria has accumulated between your teeth for several days.

TIP 5: DRINK WITH A STRAW

You probably already know that. Sugar is one of the biggest cavities culprits, but did you know it affects your breath? Try to avoid unhealthy snacks. Do you like to drink sodas? Then use a straw to avoid contact of the drink with your teeth.

TIP 6: USE AN ANTIBACTERIAL MOUTHWASH

The term says it all: an antibacterial mouthwash kills bacteria in your mouth. The rinsing product acts on places that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush or dental floss. Do not use it daily, because the product also eliminates the good bacteria present in your mouth.

SMART TOOTHBRUSH

Ready to get started? Today, your electric toothbrush can do even more. You already go a long way with a classic model, but there are also smarter variants. A built-in sensor can tell you when you’re pressing too hard or let you know after three months that it’s time to replace your brush heads. Some models are even compatible with an application on your smartphone. So you are more than spoiled for choice.
